Car Washing Can Be Art, Too
January 19, 2011
I am the curator for an art gallery. As such, I oftentimes have to transport art to the gallery to set for exhibitions and installations. I love my job. It gives me the ability to surround myself with all manner of creative people and create a bit of art myself (I do watercolor landscapes. I’m less than a professional in that regard, but I find it to be a great stress reliever at the end of the day).
Being a curator can be stressful sometimes. I have to deal with the artists (who can sometimes have very impractical terms in which they need their art displayed, and the staff (who has been fortunately very gracious but of course keeping the whole ship running smoothly can be tricky at times). It’s a navigation of a myriad of people.
But I chose this career because of my passion for beautiful art, my ability to give “starving artists” (sorry but I really hate that term) a place to display their amazing talents to the world, and my inability to create anything worth hanging on a gallery wall. If you can’t be an artist, might as well help other artists become famous. It’s what I live for.
In this fast paced job of mine, I frequently don’t have time to take care of absolutely everything. I also have three kids at home and a truly amazing husband that I don’t get to spend nearly as much time with as I’d like. There’s also the problem of the car. It’s a Landrover and is frequently in less than optimum cleanliness.
Transporting art in the back gets all kinds of scuff marks. The kids in the back seat often spill food (I really need to rethink my food in the car policy, I believe) plus there’s a random coffee spill here and there. It can get pretty heinous in there on some workweeks.
Then the weekend comes and I just want to relax, but I’ll have to take time to clean it all out. That’s why I was so happy when I found DetailXPerts. They are a car cleaning company that comes to you. That means I can phone them up from anywhere and they bring their self-contained vehicles to me to to give my car what they call a presidential detail.
The presidential detail is done completely with steam, which is environmentally safe and they use nothing but organic cleaning products. They go over my entire car with a fine toothed comb, and they do it well. When I’m handed back my keys, I’m always overjoyed with how beautiful the Rover looks.
