How to Remove Melted Crayon from a Cup Holder with Steam

The interior temperature of a closed car can raise over 125 degrees in less than twenty-five minutes during the summer. For a long car ride, crayons and coloring books are a good way to keep children entertained. But, if you forget the crayons in the summer heat, they can turn into puddles of goo, and removing melted crayons can be a hassle.
Steam is an amazingly versatile tool that you can use for a wide range of cleaning jobs inside and outside of the home. Have you ever thought about steam cleaning the interior of your vehicle? - First you want to open the doors of your vehicle to cool the interior. The crayon will be easier to remove if the temperature in the car is cooler. This way the crayon has a chance to dry and harden.
- Scrape as much of the crayon off as possible. If the crayon is warm and hard to scrape, freeze the area with an ice cube. Once the surface has harden up, use a butter knife or even a spoon to carefully scrape as much as possible off.
- Use a professional car cleaning degreaser. Spray a generous amount of degreaser on the area. Let it soak for a few minutes. You want to spray enough to cover the bottom of the cup holder. The degreaser will penetrate into the crayon and loosen it up for you to remove further. You then want to take a terry cloth and obsorb any remaining degreaser and dried crayon residue.
- Use the steamer. Place a cotton cloth completely over the remaining crayon residue. Proceed to steam the area where the crayon remains. Once the area is steamed wipe the area with the cotton cloth. The heat will melt the wax and the cotton cloth will soak up the melted wax. Continue steaming the area until all crayon residue is removed.
Crayons are composed of wax and coloring. So, melted crayon wax in the car can be a challenge to remove. Crayon stain removal is a very important thing to know expecially if you have children. As you noticed the first step is to remove the wax from the area and then treat any remaining stains from the coloring.
It is enevitable if you have children, that you will one day find an abandoned crayon melted in your cup holder or upholstery. But don’t be doomed, you shall not have a multicolored cup holder if you follow the tips above. And you will have your car in its original condition in no time.
