Cleaning a vehicle’s engine is no mean feat, with all the gunk, grime, and contaminants that get stuck in there. But did you know you can make a DIY engine cleaner to facilitate the process? That’s right! And it doesn’t take much to create this DIY engine cleaner. You can create it from products that are already in your home or buy from groceries at cheap prices.
DIY Engine Cleaner Ingredients, Procedure, and Application
Ingredients
20 drops of Orange Essential Oil (instructions below)
1-1/2 cups of warm water
2 teaspoons of dish washing liquid
Procedure
In a bowl, put the orange essential oil and dish washing liquid. Mix thoroughly. Then add the warm water. Stir.
Application
- Step 1: Remove all visible contaminants from the engine bay – dry leaves, sand grains, gunk, and so on.
- Step 2: With a sponge, apply the orange oil cleaner on one area of the engine. Leave for a couple of minutes then rinse with a towel dipped in clean water. Then work on another area. Why can’t you apply the cleaner in one go? It’s because orange oil is potent as a cleaner, so you need to rinse it off immediately with water.
- Step 3: Dry the engine with clean microfiber towels.
- Step 4: Leave the hood open to allow the engine to air-dry.
How to Make Orange Essential Oil for a DIY Engine Cleaner
Of course, you can always buy orange essential oil from groceries or online shops. But why buy if you can make one out of the orange peels that will go to the trash bin anyway? Just put the orange peels in a jar. Add enough white vinegar to cover everything. Leave for a couple of weeks, shaking every few days or so. Once the liquid turns orangey in color, pour it on a bowl with a sieve or coffee filter. Transfer your orange oil solution in a jar with a tight lid. Finally, store in a cool, dry place.
