What Makes a Successful Entrepreneur?

The journey of a successful entrepreneur is never dull. It can teach you a lot about passion and perseverance in business.

Emmanuel and Angela Williams, founders and executive leaders of DetailXPerts, invited entrepreneurs AC Brown and Jo Latham onto the More Details, Please podcast show to talk more on the subject.

Read on if you want to start living more like an everyday entrepreneur with an exciting future.

The Successful Entrepreneur Mindset

Jo Latham is a senior sales director at Mary Kay Cosmetics. And AC Brown is a certified public accountant (CPA) who runs a successful transport company with his brothers. Jo and AC share actionable tips and advice on pursuing goals with passion. And they reveal what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

Bounce Back When People Say “No”

Jo Latham says a successful entrepreneur has resilience. This mindset is “bounce back ability” (BBA). “You can’t give up on yourself,” explains Jo. “You must learn to take rejection, but not take it personally.” There will be ups and downs, challenges, and triumphs along the way. It won’t always be easy. So, you need to keep going. Even when it gets tough.

Jo adds that patience is important, too. “We can’t have everything right now. Be we can still have everything,” she explains. To sum up, patience and preparation for your big moment are key. Then when you get your big break, you’re ready for it.

Asking for Help Is NOT a Weakness

It’s okay to ask for help. “You can’t do everything,” says Jo. Living like an everyday entrepreneur means connecting with like-minded individuals. So, build relationships with mentors, advisors, and other entrepreneurs who can provide help and guidance.

Furthermore, entrepreneurial life is an ongoing learning experience. And asking for help is not a weakness, explains Jo. It can be a strength and a valuable trait. You can make better informed decisions by seeking help and advice from others with relevant experience. Moreover, it helps you avoid potential pitfalls along the way! For example, see our post on Business Lessons From Failure Stories.

Successful Entrepreneur in a Family Business

Being a successful entrepreneur in a family-owned business is a learning curve, too. AC Brown knows all about this because he works with his brothers. AC’s top tip on working with family members is “Learn to communicate without crushing someone’s ideas.”

Also, AC points out that no one’s good at everything. “In my family, we depend on each other to make our business work. The biggest hurdle is managing each other’s personalities.” But listening to each other is key. Building a strong team is crucial for scaling your business and achieving long-term success.

Husband-and-wife team Emmanuel and Angela know all about family dynamics in their mobile cleaning business! They have different personalities, but their skills complement each other. Ultimately, they share a vision. And over 20 years, they have built a hard-to-beat franchise business investment.

Take Care of Yourself

Finally, high-achieving entrepreneurs prioritize self-care. Jo’s father taught her a valuable life lesson. He reminded her that you must take care of yourself so you can take care of others.

Entrepreneurship can be demanding and stressful. Therefore, you must take care of your physical and mental well-being. Maintain a healthy work-life balance. Practice stress management techniques. Love what you do!

To sum up, becoming a successful entrepreneur takes resilience and hard work. Also, it’s important to surround yourself with talented, supportive people who share your passion and support your goals. And if you have a positive attitude and believe in your abilities, you’ll go a long way.
